Educate, Educate, Educate…Don’t Sell.

This past week I had the pleasure of attending an event to help raise awareness in the podiatric community about Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease. CMT is an incredibly debilitating disease that attacks the nervous system, specifically the nerves that control muscles. It is often referred to as the “biggest disease no one has ever heard of” because of the lack of education, awareness, and understanding.

This event reinforced how very powerful education can be and when used correctly, will benefit you and your practice much more than traditional “selling” techniques. We at Integrated MedReps, LLC, a physician practice management company, work with practices all over the country

stressing the importance of educating rather than selling.
Whenever you are faced with an opportunity to “sell” a patient or a potential referral source about you and/or your services, instead focus on educating them about your specialty specific to their needs. By educating them, you are giving them the awareness and understanding while simultaneously showing that you are the expert in your field. This applies to everything you can think of: newspaper ads, website(s), Facebook, Twitter, your blog, YouTube video, and the list goes on. It basically breaks down that people place high value on being educated and well informed as opposed to being “sold” on why you are the best. This is especially true in the medical field.

So, next time you are writing, Facebooking, Tweeting, blogging, creating an advertisement, speaking with a patient or referring office, remember to educate, educate, educate! This can make all the difference in your marketing and outreach efforts.
